SEASONAL

...well, you’ve been collecting your brown paper like I said, * windows, partially open - - fresh air - - time to think about sponge rings and chlorine:
1. all synthetic ! ! bleach on brown paper. Cheap and timorous creatures like me - afraid of ruining anything - buy at the $ store, cosmetic sponges. Random cuts of each sponge shape are strung on strong thread;
2. synthetic plus natural not bleach on thoroughly dry (even cured) brown paper. A good stamp pad colour to start with is brown;
3. all sea sponge (natural)... precious... (bleach does them in); ...very fond of my little ’elephant’s ear’ ovr 50 yrs old. For making fancy holes when you get good at the sponge thing.

Cd be depiction of autumn or spring - - his 24x48" ptg is resonant of long bus rides for me - Chwck-Vcr for yrs, fields "...newly ploughed... just begining to sweat off a hoar frost under the meagre heat of a near horizontal sun. "What caught my eye," he says, "was llight reflected from residual stalks shining like gold needles against a dark chocolate earth."

Left/ Right Halves

An early poem despairs ’All I want to be is in the machine.’ 1960s or thereabouts...long before the WCB bought its first computr - - 1970s - -
every day I passed the room it occupied. Then my own PC circa 1985;
basement of a condo (co-op living). Crying a lot.
...being a poet trying to write prose (not knowing) was even years before the 70s to burn out from all the manualMachine revisions - trying to get lines/ dialogues/ chapters/ large wholes . just right.

In 2006 one Michael Wolf possessed of ’an exclusive focus on obj of everyday life in vernacular settngs often found in abused, misusd or makeshft condns’ releasd, taken at Dafen village, photos of possibly ptrs OR workers holding paintings at Dafen galleries. Photos shown in San Francisco were a ’...critique in appealing detail of the impoverishment and brokenness of contemp. China.’

D. In 20007 one Christian Jankowski "conducted a broad survey of the galleries at Dafen village.’ and commissiond som ptrs to do work for him. The final items opened a new gallery in New York with
’...each paintng signed on the back by the Dafen paintr, each also issued w a certificate authenticatng it as a Jankowski work of art.’

I started Aug. 2008 blog w comments x the mag. Yishu and tucked away an article about Dafen village just ’outside the bordr of the Shenzhen Sp. Economic Zone’
Dafen village had bn ’...supplyng Western consumr markets w mass-prod ccs of (scarce) items sourced x the Western canon.’ Early insipid copies evolved in 20 yrs to ’a seemingly endless parade of ptgs (now) aftr works by Gerard Richter, Neo Rausch, Loretta Lux, On Kawara and so on...’.
...can’t hope for yrs and yrs to sort : Copyists, (Old mastrs apprenticed via copying; ’illuminators’ rarely acknowledgd; a master frequently signed something rendered by assistant[s]), appropriators, imitators, inspired by and the ’after So-and-So’ quotational art, and readymades - -.

A. 1993 two women C. Lazarus/ J. Berman pulled togethr twenty needlepoint projects inspired by famous ptgs of Sisley, Cassat, Morrisot et al. A worthy book publshd by Random Hse, England.

B. 2005 - Cap College students "...w inspirational hlp from well-known artists - Gogh, Hopper, Degas and others", produced an art calender featuring Vcr’s urban/natural settings.

’SCRAPLIFTING’
Quoting a Contrib Editor:
"Picasso’s composition is an abstract still life depicting a dish of fruit, a violin and a glass. The centerpiece of this collage is the violin..." w readership then dictating :
"For our scrapbook collage, we chose a photograph of a child as the focal point." Of eight image variatns two are photo duplicates and six are ’brushes’ (film strips of 50% or less size reductn of focal item).

Word bias can be strong : I can’t see this as ’lifting’. ’Lifting’ to me connotes a skim - - removal, a kind of theft. Given resultant layout, inaccurate phrase-coining, TITLING, or name-dropping as comeOns are disservices to the future of so-called ’digital collaging’.

picture a Vancouver Gastown bldg (triangular - ’flatiron’?). Extreme top L but mid-distant, figure w umbrella. Behind, a smaller fig./ umbrella. Foreground a man (at L). To his R holding his arm a woman - both sheltered by a blackish bumpershoot shiny with the rain. Foregrnd crowded : going the other way (cd be rear, Army & Navy) fourth figure hugging the wall half umbrella only. But this is not Vcr, it’s rather 1876 Paris, Caillebotte’s A Rainy Day which for spirit/ colour / composition could be ’scraplifted’ being sufficiently close to the familiar we know.

So, consider - - contemp economic problems and in the art scene "similar failures of qual; inability to see new directns; stiff new competion" etc. It does take "10,000 hrs" to develop an individual’s alertness amid an immediate- environment sagacity for spearheading....
Still the hints are, ’spend’. On what? Where are the teachers from the 1960s "world of Am. experimentalism"? What shall I buy: Combustion engine surplus? Toys R Us plastics of off shore design? Row hsg going up around me?
