not alone
Cross fertilizatn1
Sun. 10:00 a.m. walk through Douglas Park. Surprised by deep snow, orange cones; uniformed footballers (three), coach-types (three), at practice. This co-mingled with current reading - midway thru novel of Caesar, young, and campaigner, old, ruthlessly drilling
seagoers/ farmers / lads into an army fit for revenge against Mithridates.
On my way back, 2.25 kg porridge, meat loaf and PROVINCE in hand,
swore I heard among yelps/ yells of tackling, falling, laughing and barrelling in snow, a 'Hup!!' not emanating from this era.
Cross fertiliz2
Sun. 4:00 a.m. -- even stranger. My cure for insomnia is protein
and tape. The voice of Campbell Scott reading Reich's THE DEVIL'S BANKER (acquired among five audio tape books for about $20 - srs' discount - Value Village) put me back to sleep. Suddenly, with a strange cast of my own. I was deep in the same mid-Eastern alley-chase as on tape 2, side B. Awake but still resonating, we dodged for quite a while.
Cross fert3
Reminds me of falling asleep w radio on. A certain passage - saxophone playing Gluck - told me to wake up. Later, this gave title and substance to a piece of art where one surpasses oneself.

A Game
Small regret -- a missed social lifetime of the game of Bridge.
However, dealing w ordinary playing cards (OPC), kept me with A. games children play and recently B. poker poorly understood by me but splendid as a writer's pastime -- free assn and TV.
The idea is one 'signature' diary at a time: pp.14-28 having
specific game rudiments and pp.1-13 documenting free association.
The game is 7 and 2 off suit, w 3% chance of winning, a worst poker hand. Deck is shuffled. Cards turned to randomly isolate any 7 / 2 for 'grounding'. What amounts to (pencil) automatic writing (+ maybe doodles), working backwards, fills p.13. Rule: One page per show.
Document the cards drawn and highline one worthy image (the hour whizzes by) then look forward to p.12 -- next broadcast. Outline any promising character/ setting/ plot. Esp. comedy. REPEAT - comedy.
Thanks to Pushkin. His open story 7 / 3 / A Q Spades
has kept people busy for over 100 years.

a story
... about its story, narrative scrapb. gift this Christmas.
More than a half century ago, got a 'crush' on a certain man, whose name was 'Ber'. In Toronto. When told he was gay, I experienced a certain small death, still mourned. Why am I telling you this??
Oh yeah, several yrs later, Vancouver, inglorious job in film,
same no. of yrs Vancouver Little Theatre, I fancied I could write plays. Seven yrs. of writing dialogue including FIRES ON THE BOULEVARD about homosexuality, didn't turn out. The point is this:
The ATC size rectangles -- roustabouts -- contain dialogue in which I still think .
Lesson: Conversations can get you out of literary jams.
